selfportraits
March 31st, 2010 | portraits, strobist | No Comments »I recently bought 2 Lumopro LP120 flashes from Cameratools (superfast service, btw) to use together with my Canon 580 EXII flash. The Lumopros have an optical slave and get triggered by the Canon. The Canon is triggered by a 5m pc to pc cable. The cable is attached to the camera’s with a Nikon pc to hotshoe thingy. Low budget triggering, I’d say. :)
So let’s practice! Do we have a model? Where’s the model? Hmmm. Selfportraits, it is. For setting up the flashes, I decided to follow the mini workshop Bert Stephani gave a while ago on the EOS discovery day.
First step: one flash, the canon, shot through an umbrella at 1/4 -0.7 power, zoomed at 24mm.
Second step: two flashes, the canon at the same settings and one of the Lumopros set at 1/32 power, zoomed at 50mm (mechanical zoom) as a hairlight.
Third step: a second Lumopro added at 1/8 power and with a blue (full CTB) gel for the background.
At the end I placed some flowers in front of the blue flash for some shadows on the wall.
Camera settings were 1/200 at f8, ISO 100, 35mm in all shots.
Just let me know what you think!
