Red wine

A nice bottle of red wine I drank a couple of days ago. Couldn’t resist to take a picture of it. I took this one with the flash off camera. Below you see the setting. The purpose was to take a picture of the entire bottle.

The bottle is place on a white cotton sheet. The flash is placed above it and placed as close to the wall as possible in order to avoid a border line between the table and the wall. The bottle is a bit in front of the flash to have a small shadow and to avoid harsh spot lights on the neck. To soften the shadows I placed a reflector on the other side. And this is the result:

Vincenzo

Another colleague of mine, taken Thursday night at the Mijn Restaurant event. Vincenzo is an Italian guy who is with us for three months (if I remember well). When you take a photograph he always does something funny. The guy is a natural in front of a lens.

This is my colleague Tom. Although he doesn’t like standing in front of a lens, he’s very good at it. Take a picture of him and you’ll always have a nice and natural portrait.

This picture is taken with the flash on the camera. The camera is in vertical position so the flash is on the left side. If you let your subject turn his/her head, you end up with a nice profile. If you flip the camera vertically to the other side (flash on the right, shutter button somewhere down and akward to reach) you’ll get a nicely evenly lit portrait. I must say I like my Sto-fen diffuser dome a lot. It does a great job softening the flash light.

Flash

Ik heb sinds kort nieuw speelgoed en daar zijn we blij mee. Ik heb me voor mijn verjaardag een flits aangeschaft en ik ben ineens voor de Canon 580 EX II gegaan. Echt een geweldig ding en ik amuseer me er rot mee. Ik moet natuurlijk nog veel leren, maar kom. Hieronder één van de eerste experimentjes. Flash staat helemaal naar boven gericht met een Sto-Fen diffuser dome erop.

Laat maar weten wat jullie ervan vinden. Mooi diffuus licht, dat wel, maar de nabewerking is wel redelijk moeilijk moet ik zeggen, bij dit soort foto’s. Portretten in het algemeen eigenlijk. Die verdomde huidkleur toch!

Le nouveau jouet est arrivé

Een Corsair Flash Voyager van 4 gigabyte. Volledig in rubber. Zou tegen een stootje moeten kunnen zodat we deze stoten niet meer tegenkomen. Naar verluid kan hij zo goed als overal tegen, je mag hem alleen niet in de oven steken.
