Rare ochtend

Het was een bizarre ochtend deze morgen. Reeds om zeven uur de trein genomen van Antwerpen naar Leuven. Ik zat nog niet goed en wel op mijn plaatsje op de trein toen bleek dat de portefeuille van de dame over uit haar handtas gestolen was op het perron. De treindeuren waren al gesloten echter op dat moment en er was niets meer aan te doen. Gelukkig had de dame geen enkele bank- of creditkaart op zak en was ze haar GSM vergeten. Sleutels en het buideltje met kleingeld hadden ze niet meegepikt. Enkel wat cash en papier is ze kwijt. Gelukkig maar.

Op mijn kot aangekomen bleek de Alfa 147 die voor de deur stond ’s nachts bewerkt te zijn geweest met een autosleutel of ander scherp voorwerp. Heel de motorkap stond vol met lange krassen en de deuren hadden ook hun portie te verduren gekregen. De eigenaars stonden er radeloos, kwaad en vol ongeloof op te zien. Hopelijk heeft die een omniumverzekering. Maar wat bezielt nu een mens in godsnaam om zoiets uit te halen!

Gat in de markt

Een blog over muziek! Dat misten we toch echt tot voor kort vond ik, maar Kraist heeft daar nu verandering in gebracht. Eindelijk is hij aan het bloggen geslagen en het design en de eerste posts zijn alvast de moeite. Oorzonde.be noemt het pareltje. Wilt u sneller op de hoogte zijn dan het StuBru popnieuws, surf dan als de gesmeerde bliksem naar Oorzonde.be. U moest al weg zijn!

Val achterover

Onder de categorie Niet te geloven maar het bestaat: de Idool badspons in de vorm van een microfoon. Voor al uw zangprestaties onder de douche. En wilt u eens echt van uw stoel vallen van verbazing, traag en verbauwereerd terug rechtkrabbelen, nog eens in uw ogen wrijven en vervolgens buikpijn van het lachen krijgen: Superhond 2007. Of hoe ook een pekinees een sjakos kan dragen. Die VTM, het blijft toch lachen

Werchter

Super! Duur, maar super! Die affiche van Werchter. Echter, 1 ding waar ik mij ineens zorgen over maak: de line-up. Dit zat in mijn mail daarnet:

Zondag 1 juli: main stage: !!!, Mastodon, The Kooks, Incubus, Metallica, Faithless

Dat gaat toch nog niet exacte volgorde van optreden zijn h?? Ze gaan Faithless toch niet na Metallica laten spelen!! Herman, zeg mij dat ik raaskal!!

TexnicCenter and Adobe Reader 8.0

(For my Dutch speaking readers: this post containing work related stuff on a technical software communication problem is meant to help out people over the globe and therefore written in English.)

Those of you who make use of the mathematical typesetting tool MikTeX (or a similar version) combined with the use of some version of the editor TexnicCenter will have noticed that troubles occur when viewing your pdf document in the new Adobe Reader 8.0. Nothing goes wrong when opening and viewing your document, but the minute you want to close the Adobe Reader or recompile your document in the TexnicCenter editor, an “Unknown Software Exception (0xc000000d) at location 0×7813892c” is thrown. The error itself is not much to worry about, but in my case it messed up my Firefox PDF plugin. The error is due to the fact that in your TexnicCenter output profiles the DDE commands you pass through to Adobe Reader 8.0 aren’t correct. These need therefore to be altered and this can be done as follows.

Go to Build -> Define Output Profiles in the menu bar of TexnicCenter or press Alt-F7. For the profiles that build a pdf file (most likely the profiles “LaTeX => PDF” and “LaTeX => PS => PDF”) go to the viewer tab. Here you have to alter three fields:

1. In the field View project’s output enable the option DDE command, delete whatever command there is in the next line and write there: [DocOpen("%bm.pdf")][DocOpen("%bm.pdf")]
2. In the field Forward Search enable the option DDE command, delete whatever command there is in the next line and write there:
   [DocOpen("%bm.pdf")][DocOpen("%bm.pdf")]
3. In the field Close document before running (La)TeX enable the option DDE command, delete whatever command there is in the next line and write there:
   [DocOpen("%bm.pdf")][DocOpen("%bm.pdf")][DocClose("%bm.pdf")]

That should solve your problems.

Update: If the problem isn’t solved, check the quotation marks. They probably weren’t copied correctly. If that doesn’t work, you could try the following lines: [DocOpen("%bm.pdf")][FileOpen("%bm.pdf")] for point 1 and 2; [DocClose("%bm.pdf")] for point 3. That’s what my newest TexnicCenter filled in automatically for me and it works with Reader 8.1.2. If you still have problems check underneath each DDE command the “Server” and the “Topic”. In those boxes “acroview” and “control” should be filled out respectively (thx Maarten for pointing that out in the commets).

Dikke-truiendag

Vandaag doen we hier op de KULeuven aan dikke-truiendag, maar ik merk er eerlijk gezegd niet zo veel van. Het is precies zelfs warmer dan normaal. Ik heb een gewone trui aan ik ga ze zo meteen uitzwieren denk ik. De technische dienst zal de knop weer naar de verkeerde kant gedraaid hebben
